4D Labs, a new research institute located at Simon Fraser University, needed a print publication to spread the word of its capabilities and novel approach to collaborative research and partnerships.
4D Labs
Creative approach/execution:
At the time this communications initiative was launched, 4D Labs was in an early stage of its development. It had yet to begin construction of its planned $35-million R&D centre and had few projects under its belt to share as examples. What it did have was a remarkably talented core team.
We developed a smart-looking and compact 7x7” booklet printed on a dull coat stock with 24 French-fold interior pages. The booklet’s back cover featured the 4D logo and web URL while the front cover contained a simple, yet intriguing statement, “The world demands…”
To compel readers to delve further into the booklet, the next several pages answered the question posed on the booklet’s cover by focusing on key areas of 4D Lab’s R&D interest: Clean Energy, IT and Health Care. Ultimately, the book introduced 4D Labs in its center spread, explaining how this landmark institute would pioneer products that “the world wants, needs and demands.” The booklet went on to introduce 4D’s principal researchers through engaging portraits and tight profiles, adding an important human resource/talent dimension to the 4D Lab story.
