Canadian Transportation Fuel Cell Alliance

Project goal: Led by Natural Resources Canada, the Canadian Transportation Fuel Cell Alliance (CTFCA) involves an array of corporate, government and academic partners working together to advance codes and standards for hydrogen energy technologies for automotive applications. The CTFCA required a newsletter to keep its stakeholder group up-to-date on CTFCA activities.
Creative approach/execution: Fuel cells and hydrogen technologies may be interesting stuff, but not necessarily to look at. That was just one challenge we faced when creating an engaging newsletter for the CTFCA. Budget was another consideration.
To create a template for an ongoing newsletter that could be updated at a reasonable cost, we developed a simple, 4-panel 8.5x11” newsletter printed on a single-folded sheet of 11x17” semi-gloss recyclable stock. Premised on CTFCA’s transportation” theme, we called the newsletter “Directions.” Accompanying each compact story we employed road-sign icons, each creatively modified using Photoshop to give the icon contextual meaning with its accompanying story. The result was a visually lively, easy to read newsletter.
