Simon Fraser University’s Advancement Office wanted to both improve the compelling nature of its messaging to potential donors
ADVANCEMENT BROCHURE FOLDER AND MATERIALS
Project goal: Simon Fraser University’s Advancement Office wanted to both improve the compelling nature of its messaging to potential donors and bring uniformity to the outreach activities of its 7 faculties.
Creative approach/execution: We responded with an aspirational concept premised questions designed to inspire alumni and others to consider the potential of all SFU students and thus the value and impact of a donation to the university.
The concept was applied to a combined brochure-folder. Its cover, which featured images of the faces of more than 200 SFU students, graduates and faculty members was headlined with the provocative question, “Who will change the world?”
Inside, tight profiles of the achievements of notable SFU graduates representing all faculties were book-ended with a similarly compelling question, “What if you could…” and an answer, “You can.”
The content also informed donors of SFU’s three key funding areas: Scholarships, Bursaries and Awards; Research Chairs and Professorships; and, New Buildings and Facilities.
This brochure-folder also included a back pocket into which each faculty’s advancement office could insert materials and thereby customize a presentation. To enhance the uniformity of materials distributed by various facilities, we also created a design template allowing each faculty to create, easily update and print-on-demand uniformly branded supplemental 8.5x11” documents.

Other branded materials created as part of this communications package included posters for events and campus presentation, and simple thank-you notes for donors.
